A group of community leaders and activists united to cultivate a barren hillside into a 1.5 community garden for elders; one of the first in the city of Seattle. This effort was a response to ongoing neighborhood neglect and the elder community’s need for a safe growing and gathering space. What began as a simple terraced garden quickly transformed into a place to escape social isolation, stay physically active, and access affordable culturally-relevant produce. In 2010 the garden grew to meet the needs of our changing community, forging inter-generational connections through children’s garden programming. To this day, we work to amplify the stories and legacies of our gardeners and our land. We are here to celebrate community power, cultural preservation, and environmental access.

At Danny Woo Community Garden we cultivate resiliency, solidarity, and stewardship.
CULTIVATE is a celebration of 4 decades of food and environmental justice at the Danny Woo Community Garden. Join InterIm Community Development Association in the garden for an evening of light fare, libations, and sweet tunes.  To honor the past, present, and future of Seattle’s vibrant food justice scene we’re highlighting local chefs of color and our collective contributions to the movement!
